Teens are struggling with anxiety at an all time high right now.

Teen Anxiety Therapy

Teenagers are struggling with anxiety at an all time high right now, especially when faced with comparison on social media, bullying, and low self-esteem.

This can lead to:

  • struggles in managing emotions

  • loss of motivation in school and extracurricular activities

  • struggles in friendships

  • social anxiety

  • perfectionism

  • self-destructive or self-harming behaviors

Many teens are hesitant to open up to their parents for fear they will be punished, disciplined, or ignored.  Having a safe, trusted counselor to talk to provides an outlet to begin learning how to process their feelings and develop healthy coping skills.

At Heal and Thrive Therapy, we help teens manage their anxiety or depression, gain control of their emotions, develop coping skills, develop empathy for others, enhance their self-regulation, and help them gain a sense of self to increase their self-esteem and self-confidence.

Dear parents…

Do you believe your teen would benefit from…

  • Building self-confidence

  • Learning better coping skills to manage stress, anxiety, and transitions

Do you feel like your teen is…

  • Trying to get validation from social media?

  • Overwhelmed and anxious due to social media?

  • Moody and you just don't know who your teen is anymore?

  • Not listening to you?

You want to have a better relationship with your teen.

You deserve to conserve energy you normally spend worrying about your teen and use it for YOU and your mental health.

You deserve to feel more confident in your teen's ability to cope with the world.

You want to be able to help your teen but can't seem to find the exact words to connect with them or help them (even though you might have been through something similar when you were a teen!)

Dear teens…

Here are some common issues we see teens going through:

  • Anxiety

  • Stress and worry

  • Depression and feelings of loneliness

  • Self-harm or suicidal thoughts

  • Trouble feeling motivated or completing tasks

  • Low self-esteem/confidence

  • Worrying what others think

  • Questions or concerns about gender and sexuality

  • LGBTQ+ issues

  • Relationship problems

  • Friendship problems

  • Family issues

  • Concerns surrounding getting into college and navigating the high school to college transition

It is incredibly important to us that you feel safe enough here to talk about the things that matter most to you. The therapy relationship is built on respect and trust. What you have to say matters to us and you deserve to have a place to talk without fear of judgment.

Although we value your parents’ feedback and information, we consider you an expert on how you’ve been feeling and what you’ve been going through.

Being a teen in today’s world is really tough. You might feel like academics, a social life, extracurriculars, social media, and family obligations are impossible to balance.

You may have found yourself feeling very anxious and worried about what others think of you. You might be irritable most of the time and feel like no one in your family understands what you are going through.

It can be incredibly difficult to ask for help. You deserve to have a safe space to vent about anything that is stressful in your life, learn how to build confidence in yourself, and create better relationships.

Do any of these sound familiar to you?

  • School is so stressful and anxiety-provoking that you try to avoid going

  • You don’t feel happy doing the things you used to love to do

  • Trying to communicate with your parents leaves you feeling frustrated

  • You feel like you don’t fit in with people around you

  • Figuring out your future is too overwhelming to think about

  • It's difficult to make friends

  • You often feel anxious and on edge, like something terrible will happen at any given moment

  • You’ve had many big changes in your life that have been difficult to cope with

A note on confidentiality for parents:

For all of you survivors of middle school and high school-you know firsthand how hard and critical this time of life is. You have BEEN THERE but your teen might not see it that way. Sometimes it is helpful to have somebody to walk alongside during these tough times discovering identity who isn't your parent.

We know that getting your teen help with their struggles has been one of the most important things in your life recently. It is absolutely understandable that you have questions and want to know what your teen discusses in therapy sessions.

In order for your teen to make progress, it is our job to create a safe space for your teen to talk freely about the issues they are facing without fear that it will be repeated to parents/caregivers.

It is imperative that we respect their privacy. As a general rule, we will refrain from disclosing the details of what’s discussed in therapy with you. Family sessions are a possibility if your teen is willing.

Exceptions to this rule that require us to provide you details include if your teen shares information indicating potential abuse/neglect of a minor or information that would lead us to believe your teen is a danger to themselves or others.

You are doing an incredible job by supporting your teen to get help through therapy. We want to sincerely thank you for getting your child help through this tough season of life.

Additional information regarding teen anxiety therapy

Counseling sessions at Heal and Thrive Therapy are generally about 50 minutes in length. Your teen therapist will first invite the parent and teen for the initial half of the session in order to obtain information on history, observations at home, goals for counseling, and anything else that you feel is relevant to your teen’s care. For the rest of the session, the therapist will meet with the teen. This is only a suggestion, as you and your teen are able to request the session be only between therapist and teen.

Sessions moving forward will be with the therapist and the teen. Check-in sessions with parents/caregivers are encouraged. Feel free to message your teen's therapist to request one.

Here at Heal and Thrive Therapy, teen therapists will tailor treatment to the teen's specific issues and goals.

Accessibility to therapy:
